A hospital bed change usually includes a fitted mattress cover, a flat sheet, a pillowcase and a blanket. Purifas Hospital Linen replaces the fitted mattress cover and the pillowcase, so this calculator counts just those two.

Starting values: 1 kg mattress covers costing $8.50 and 0.4 kg pillowcases costing $5.00, each retired after 120 washes, laundered at $2.40 per kg, with retired linen managed at $1.75 per kg. Adjust them to match your contract and linen. Savings compare these costs with a flat Purifas rate per mattress cover and pillowcase. Staff time to strip, bag, transport, count and restock linen, linen lost in circulation and the cost of handling contaminated linen aren't included.
Most of what launderable linen costs is the laundering itself, paid every time it's used. A worn-out item only has to be replaced every hundred or so washes, but it's laundered after every patient.
A few dollars a bed change doesn't feel like much. Across every bed, every day, all year, it becomes one of the larger lines in the ward's running costs.

The Dream Topper story continues with a new extended face cradle version designed specifically for horseshoe-style or contoured therapy beds. Built from therapist feedback, it delivers the same premium comfort, hygiene and presentation as the original — now in a cradle-specific design that supports a smoother, more natural prone position. Part of the Purifas zero-towel solution, it helps reduce towel use, streamline hygiene and elevate every client experience.
Therapists often assume reusable automatically means sustainable — especially with towels. But when you look at the full lifecycle, laundry carries hidden water, energy, chemical and time costs that add up fast. This blog breaks down the real environmental impact of laundering versus recycling polypropylene, and shows why the greener choice isn’t about reusable vs single‑use in theory, but about which pathway actually reduces harm in a busy clinic.
